Google Maps Gets UK Rail Information

by - source: ZDNet

Finally!

UK users of Google Maps will be pleased to hear that the search giant has finally added UK rail service to its mapping application. This means those planning journeys or routes with Google Maps can now plan their trip around the train timetables. Hurray!

The addition of rail information to Google Maps UK is thanks to a new partnership between Google and thetrainline.com. What's more, travellers will also be able to click through to thetrainline.com to search and book tickets.

This new partnership is just another tool that will play a part in the preparation for the Olympics, which is set to take over London this summer. The hope is that tourists will use the new feature to better plan their itineraries for when they're here for the games.

"Google Maps seeks to provide a wide range of relevant local information, and public transport station and schedule information is definitely a part of that," Google's Ed Parsons, said in a statement.

To try it out for yourself, hit up Google Maps and then click 'Get Directions.' Once you've filled in your points of departure and arrival, hit the little picture of the train.
