Google: Galaxy Nexus Volume Bug Fix to Hit Next Week

by - source: Engadget

Google has said it will next week have fixed the Galaxy Nexus volume issue that has been plaguing owners of the phone in the United Kingdom.

Google's hotly anticipated Galaxy Nexus arrived in the United Kingdom earlier this month, but, sadly, it wasn't a flawless launch. The phone, unveiled in October and not yet available in the United States, displayed a curious bug that caused the phone to turn its volume settings up and down of its own accord. Users complaining of the issue received an answer from Google several days after the bug first cropped up; though developers were initially worried that this was a hardware issue that could only be resolved with a recall, Google assured users that a software bug was on the way.

That was last week, on November 23, and it seems the fix is already being rolled out to users and should have arrived on all phones within a few days. Speaking to Engadget, Google said, "We're currently rolling out a fix for the volume issue which will reach everyone in the coming week."

The Galaxy Nexus is scheduled for launch in North America early next month, but it's not likely that the bug will present any problems once the phone arrives there. Affected users say the problem mostly occurs when the radio is being switched from 3G to 2G or in areas of poor signal, and only on phones that use 900Mhz for 2G coverage. Though common in Europe, carriers in the U.S. and Canada use different GSM bands, so Americans and Canadians interested in a Galaxy Nexus shouldn't worry about this problem affecting them.
