Google Books Arrives in the United Kingdom
Just in time for the cold winter months.
Google's Google Books service has been exclusive to U.S. users since launch, but now it's time for users in the United Kingdom to get a taste of the search giant's book-serving endeavours. The service is now available in the United Kingdom, along with an application for those using devices running Android 2.1 and up. This means users in the UK now have access to the company's library of over three million books, two million of them free.
"Readers in the UK now have access to the world's largest ebooks collection, with hundreds of thousands of ebooks for sale -- from major UK publishers like Hachette, Random House and Penguin -- as well as more than two million public domain ebooks for free," Google said in a statement today.
One of the attractive features of Google Books is that you don't need to stick to one device to use the service. You can start reading on your Android phone, later switch to your laptop, and finish up the day reading a few chapters in bed on your tablet. The app will always pick up where you left off, no matter what device you're using, because Google automatically syncs your progress across all devices. All you have to do is sign in with your Google account.
