Any Android user will tell you that one of the worst things about the OS is waiting for new versions to be pushed out by carriers. The wait can be long, especially when other handsets or networks already have the latest build. Today, Vodafone UK had an announcement that made for a lot of happy Galaxy S users.
"A new maintenance release for the Samsung Galaxy S is now available for Vodafone customers," the carrier wrote on its user forums. "This is an Android platform update to 2.3 Gingerbread which introduces a number of fixes and improvements."
Galaxy S users eager to update can do so by plugging their device in via USB and will be prompted to update after opening the Samsung KIES application.
This past weekend has seen several European carriers roll out Gingerbread updates, but Vodafone appears to be the first UK carrier to do so.
