After NVIDIA took the world by surprise with its GeForce 8800 GT, which is still very hard to find and priced way beyond the initial $200 asking price, AMD has reaped the fruits with its Radeon HD 3870. AMD has had its own availability issues, but has mainly benefited from its Radeon 3850 256 MB, which can easily be found starting at $150.
With an excellent performance-performance ratio, it hadn’t any real competitor until now, when it faces the GeForce 8800 GT in a 256 MB version that’s showing up in just a few stores (without really being available, just like the older model). However, does it manage to really match all the Radeon’s qualities at an even more aggressive price?
