Scientists are spreading the love. Researchers from the US Air Force have submitted a three page proposal to the Pentagon with an idea for a new “gay bomb”.
In 1994 scientists at Wright Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio produced the proposal suggesting that a strong aphrodisiac be dropped on enemy soldiers. They specified that the chemical would be non-lethal but would ideally cause “homosexual behaviour” although they did admit in their “Discoveries Needed” section that they were waiting for such a chemical to be developed as no aphrodisiac that would cause the desired affect existed as of yet.
The pages also contained other novel ideas including one involving bee pheromones. Enemy soldiers would be covered bee pheromones, and beehives would then be hidden behind enemy lines.
The proposal for the “gay bomb” was discovered as a result of the freedom of information act and won the 2007 Ignobel peace prize for "instigating research & development on a chemical weapon—the so-called ’gay bomb’—that will make enemy soldiers become sexually irresistible to each other."
Air Force personnel were contacted but were not willing to attend the ceremony and accept the award.
