Three Pushes Galaxy W Launch to Late October Due to 'Stock Issues'
Prepare for landing ...
The Nexus Prime might be shaping up to be one of the most powerful phones out there, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it's not going to be cheap, either. However, Samsung isn't all about expensive superphones that will cost you roughly £500 (if we're going by the current industry standard for off-contract smartphones). Sammy's recently announced and economical Galaxy W will arrive on Three with a very reasonable PAYG price tag of £250 later this month.
Originally slated to arrive on Three last month, the phone was briefly available yesterday before disappearing. The network told Recombu that stock issues have resulted in the phone being pushed to late-October. The phone boasts a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen, a 1.4GHz CPU, 4GB of storage, a 5-megapixel camera, and Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread). When it does become available, customers are looking at an up-front price of £250 and then £15-per-month for Three's All in One 15, which offers 30-days access to all-you-can-eat data, 300 any-network minutes and 3,000 texts. If you need more minutes and texts, you can upgrade to All in One 25, which offers 500 minutes, 3,000 texts and all-you-can-eat data for a 30 days.
The Galaxy W was unveiled in August as just one of four new Gingerbread handsets from Samsung (it was joined by the Galaxy M Pro, the Galaxy Y and the Galaxy Y Pro). The company also took the time to lay the foundation for a new naming strategy for its handsets. The letter following the Galaxy moniker now stands for the category Samsung has assigned that specific phone to. The 'W' stands for Wonder while the Galaxy S phones are 'Super Smart,' the R line is 'Royal/Refined,' the M is 'Magical, and the Y is 'Young.'
The phone is also expected to be available through O2 and Virgin Mobile.
