IFA 2007: MSI Gamer Notebooks with Overclocking Feature
MSI is turbo-charging notebooks. At the press of a button, notebooks belonging to the Extreme Edition of the (Santa Rosa-based) GX-600 series can be over locked by 20%, giving performance-hungry games the extra punch they may need. However, this feature is only available when the notebook is connected to a wall-socket.
The notebooks use a non-reflective 15.4” WSXGA display with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and a refresh rate of 8 ms. A look inside reveals an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor running at 2.2 GHz, with an Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT with 512MB DDR3-RAM supplying the necessary graphics power. The units come with a variety of video interfaces including HDMI, DVI, D-Sub, and S-Video.
The GX-600s also sport a wealth of connectivity options, ranging from an integrated modem, Bluetooth, and an Intel 4965AGN WLAN adapter to a Gigabit Ethernet port. There is even an eSATA connector. The unit’s hard drive can store 250 GB of data. Visually, the GX-600’s case sports a piano finish and carries tribal-style decorations.
A 4-in-1 card reader, a 1.3 mega pixel web-cam integrated into the top of the display bezel and a bundled headset further emphasize the multimedia and gaming orientation of the GX-600 series, which will debut mid-September at a price of £1,080 / €1,599. The list of options available at extra charge includes an HD-DVD combo drive.
If you can do with a little less power and a slightly reduced feature set, you may be interested in the GX-600 Performance, which will cost £880 / €1,299. This little sibling will have a 14 ms display with 1680 x 1050 pixels and use an Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 CPU. Lastly, it will also lack the turbo-button.
