Uproar at newest ads for GHD
First it was the Ryanair advert with the “sexy schoolgirl” and now it’s ads for hair straighteners.
The latest advertising uproar is in response to an “erotic” advert, which shows women in their underwear praying.
According to SkyNews more than 20 people, including the Archdeacon of Liverpool, complained about the three ads for the ghd IV styler, which used the phrase "thy will be done".
As a result our friends over at the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) have upheld the complaints and judged the ads to be seriously offensive to Christians.
The banning of the ads has, of course, resulted in the obligatory Facebook group.
The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) recently asked Ryanair withdraw an ad it felt was offensive and portrayed school-aged girls in a provocative way.
The image showed a woman (who is quite clearly not in school anymore, but I won’t pass comment) in a classroom, dressed in a short skirt and skimpy top. The caption above the image read,
“HOTTEST back to school fares”
The authority said it received 13 complaints from people who claimed the ad was offensive and that there was sexual connotations to the image.
The ASA said that the classroom setting, together with the type of clothing the woman was sporting "appeared to link teenage girls with sexually provocative behaviour and was irresponsible and likely to cause serious or widespread offence".
Ryanair refused to withdraw the ad claiming it was only likely to offend a handful of people.
