Firefox 3 Website Experiences High Traffic Problems

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Some of you may have noticed that it’s been difficult to get to the Firefox website to download Firefox 3, which was pegged for release today.

Mozilla was going for a Guinness World Record for the most downloads inside 24 hours with the launch of the latest version of Firefox and while there were websites around to help you plan your Firefox Download Day Parties and banners urging you to pledge to download Firefox in the day following its launch, many people were skeptical about how the website would deal with all the traffic from all those pledges, not to mention those who didn’t pledge

Well, it looks like not so good. Attempts to break the record, which doesn’t yet exist, have seemingly crashed the website with access being intermittent from shortly after it was launched at 1PM ET.

We tried several times to download FF3 but have been mostly unable to access the site and when we have, have only had the option to download Firefox v2.0.0.14.

Let us know if you’ve successfully downloaded Firefox 3 and what you think in the comments section below.

I've been using it since alpha (gran paradiso) as a testing browser but updating my main one was awful! gave up and went to bed in the end!

After a couple of attempts I managed to download it at about midnight GMT last night. The speed increase is surprisingly noticeable, and it runs much smoother when opening a lot of tabs at once
