Shocking: Facebook faces privacy investigation

Facebook will come into discussions with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) because of recent controversy over the sites privacy policies. Deja vu, anyone ?

The ICO has raised concerns over what happens to users’ information after they deactivate their account because after the account has been deactivated, the information still remains on the Facebook server.

The investigations comes after a user complained that even thought their account had been deactivated and was no long accessible, their information still remained on Facebook servers. The site claims that the retention of the information proves useful if users decide they want to reactivate their account.

Facebook claim that they are in full compliance of UK data protection laws.

As it stands when a users wants to delete their account they get an automated response, which tells them they have to log into their account and delete all their personal information themselves, which in our opinion sounds a bit labourious.

Facebook remains adamant that it does not use any information retained from deactivated accounts.
