Facebook CEO apologises for advertising . . . Can we say cock up in a headline?

Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has apologised to users for the recent controversy over the sites newly implemented advertising system.

Beacon was recently launched on Facebook in cooperation with several participating partner sites, including Coca Cola, Blockbuster and Sony Pictures. The program tracks users shopping habits and purchases on the partner sites and then sells ads to Facebook based on the results.

Obviously, people weren’t happy with their friends knowing anything and everything they bought online. Some people complained Christmas presents they had bought for friends were now ruined because everyone could see what they were buying. We believe things could have been worse. . .What with all the things people buy online these days . . .

Facebook originally ran the service on an all-in, with an opt-out system. The site has now changed this to an all-out, opt-in system. There you go.
