ZyXEL is making a comeback in the home entertainment hardware arena. Its ZyXEL NSA-220 is a network attached storage device that also features an A/V server which shares directories on the NAS over the network. The content can be received by any DLNA-capable client. ZyXEL also includes an adapter for the HDMI interface.
The NSA-220 costs € 200, which doesn’t include an internal hard drive. It can house up to two SATA drives which can be configured as a RAID1 or RAID0 array, if desired. Of course the drives can also be addressed individually. The NSA-220 also offers USB-expandability for two drives, although these can’t be integrated into the RAID array. The network connection is supplied by a Gigabit Ethernet interface.
| File Server | Share files of any kind on the network with per-user or group access rights. Files are accessed either through Windows or by HTTP-transfer. |
| FTP-Server | Store and share files in remote folders. Files are shared either per user or group policies. |
| Media-Server | Store images, music or video files that can be received by uPNP clients. The files remain on the NAS device and are only streamed to the client. Usually, the content will be played back on a TV. |
