Eircom's Spider Awards: Winners Announced

By - Source: Tom's Hardware | B 1 comment

Last night saw Irish telecommunications company, Eircom, host the annual Golden Spider awards, an event which is garnering more attention with each passing year.

The Golden Spiders are fast becoming an event that everyone wants to be a part of given the ever growing technology industry in Ireland. More and more companies are opting for Dublin-based offices; already home to the likes of IBM, Google, Intel (and with Facebook on the way), the web is playing a bigger role in business as the months and years go by.

The Spiders are about Recognizing Excellence in Internet & Digital Media and according to the Irish Times, entries for this year’s awards hit 607, a full 20 percent increase in entries compared to 2007, including a People’s Choice award for the favourite Social Networking and Community site as voted for by, you guessed it, the people.

Last night’s ceremony saw a healthy mix of winners right across the board, including a less businessy award for "Best Community or Charity Website" for, however it seems the big winners were the Ordnance Survey Ireland and, each scooping two of the gold arachnids.

OSI's awards on their new turf. Shiny, glass display cabinet in reception to follow, we're told.

While Eircom is the title sponsor, the awards themselves are owned by Business & Finance Media Group, publisher of Business and Finance Magazine and Magill and hosts of the Business & Finance US-Ireland Awards.
