Eee Pad Transformer to Get March 30 UK Launch
Well here’s something we didn’t expect!
It looks like the drooling masses will only have to hang on for another 48 hours if they want to get their hands on the just announced Asus Eee Pad Transformer. According to Digitimes, the laptop/tablet hybrid will hit UK shelves on March 30, just two days from now. Unfortunately, our American cousins will have to wait a little longer as Digitimes offers nothing more specific for the U.S. launch than the "early April," Asus provided last week.
Revealed on Friday, the Transformer is a Honeycomb tablet with an optional docking station keyboard. Specswise you’re looking at a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera, a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera, a 10.1-inch Gorilla glass multitouch screen (1280x800), a combined battery life of 16 hours (9.5 hours without the dock), built-in SRS Sound technology for dynamic 3D stereo audio, and a mini HDMI output port. Additional features include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a G-sensor, light sensor, gyroscope, e-compass and GPS. The docking station provides a full QWERTY keyboard, unique Android Function keys, an SD card reader, two USB ports and the additional battery.
Pricing is not known at the moment. Rumours from across the pond suggest customer in the U.S. will have to shell out $500 for the tablet on its own, and an additional $100 for the keyboard. I guess we’ll know soon enough, if the reports of a March 30 UK launch are true.

If the screen was anti-glare this would be interesting depending on the weight of course (and price, etc.) as a thin and light laptop alternative. Would not want to go back to a shiny screen for working on the train though.
$500 in US is still much better than Xoom's $500 but I'm not paying anything more than $300 European price ($$$ not Euro).
well if it had Win7 dual boot that would be great for netbook replacement...
Well, it has a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, so don't hold your breath for Win7 support.
Still, I think it's a sweet piece of technology. I would definitely skip on the $100 dock though.
This might be the dark horse that will beat everything else, looks like a well equipped piece of kit.
