Dublin City Council drops plans to provide municipal Wi-Fi
Oh dear. It seems Dublin City Council has abandoned it’s plans to blanket the city with free Wi-Fi.
Around this time last year, Dublin City council announced it’s plans to offer free wi-fi access all over the city. The guesstimated cost for the project was between 12 and 20 million euro.
At the time there was lots of whining from broadband providers. Understandably they were all in a bit of a tizzy about the government stealing away all of their lovely customers.
Well, worry not valiant net providers ! It seems the council has scrapped the plans, claiming it might breach EU state aid laws.
Would have been nice to check my email in the park, I must say. Completely useless, mind. But nice all the same.
