Japanese dentists roll out new robotic test dummy
Japanese scientists have developed a new dummy for dentistry students to practice on.
The new dummy, Simulator Humanoid or “Simroid”, can apparently feel pain if the student strikes a sensitive nerve in their mouth.
The dummy was unveiled at the robotics convention in Tokyo last week. It’s full set of pearly whites are equipped with a full set of virtual nerves. When the student accidentally touches a nerve, the dummy says, “Ow that hurts !” or something similar.
As out News Editor has just had a tooth out, dentistry is a bit of a touchy subject. So, all we’ll say on the matter is we hope it helps them figure out how to be a little more gentle when it comes to extractions or drilling.
