Dell announces closure of 140 kiosks in the U.S
You can’t buy Dell in the shops, so you’ll have to call or buy online.
This used to be the case and if reports prove correct, it won’t be long before there’s little or no Dell retail outlets.
Dell has announced that 140 of it’s kiosks in the US, the company’s only storefront presence, will be no more.
Way back when in the Dell Day, the company was notorious for only flogging it’s wares over the phone, direct from the company.
Then, in it’s wisdom, the company decided it might be a good idea to have a few Dell signs around the place. Advertising and that. The customer kiosk was born.
The kiosks didn’t actually sell any Dell machines. It was more like a little bit of the Dell experience for shoppers. There was Dell equipment for customers to lark about with and then the usual Dell employee to answer questions and take orders.
Dell recently got bumped down from its top position in the global PC market by HP. This little announcement about the death of customer kiosk is likely to be the first of many in an effort to ramp up the company’s sales.
Dell will continue to operate it’s kiosks outside the U.S.
