Round Rock (TX) – If you are looking to squeeze more graphics performance out of your notebook, Dell is now offering Nvidia’s fastest notebook graphics processor in a pricey dual-GPU configuration.
Dual GeForce 8800M GTX graphics processors with 1 GB of graphics memory have become available today as a configuration option for Dell’s XPS M1730 notebooks. The company claims that systems with two GPUs are capable of reaching a performance of 13,500 points in the 3DMark2006 benchmark – or a 49% higher score than the same notebook with two 8700M GT processors.
The two 8800M GTX GPU option is offered as a $1000 upgrade over M1730 models that include a single 8700M GT chip and as a $700 option for M1730s that come with dual-8700 M GT processors. A Dell notebook equipped with this new high-end graphics feature will cost at least $3400, and can, depending on further options, top $7000.
At that price, Dell not only competes with boutique PC vendors, but exceeds the price point of its own premium brand Alienware. The high-end Alienware Area-51 m15x is priced between $2100 and $5200 and is only available with single GeForce 8600M, 8700M and 8800M GTX GPUs.
