Dell Adamo: It Looks Premium

Although it wasn’t officially announced at CES, Dell did bring along with it a physical representation of what the upcoming “Adamo” notebook would look and feel like.

The Adamo is Dell’s upcoming luxury notebook product. Currently, the XPS notebooks are as good as it gets for Dell notebooks, but they’ll have to move over for the Adamo. But rather than focus on performance, which is what the XPS line does best, the Adamo appears to be about form first.

Adamo is Latin and translates roughly "to fall in love with, to find pleasure with." That’s the sort of feeling that the design evokes. Comparisons with the HP VoodooPC Envy notebook are inevitable due to its super-thin profile and angular shape. Rather than use carbon fibre, the Adamo uses brushed aluminum. Unlike the new Apple MacBooks, however, there still are still plastic bits and the keyboard appears to be framed in a more traditional manner. What the Adamo does have from the new MacBooks, for better or worse, is a sheet of glass covering the 13-inch screen which many users have complained about.

Dell isn’t letting on much else about the Adamo other than from the brief inspection. What’s on the inside is still a mystery, let alone pricing. From what we can tell so far, though, the Adamo could give VoodooPC something to be envious about.
