Dead Space 2 PC Not Out of the Picture; Still Hope

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

There's still some hope for the PC version of Dead Space 2.

Yesterday we reported the seemingly depressing news that EA had no intent to publish the PC version of Dead Space 2 based on the company's Fiscal Q4 2011 schedule. In fact, a public relations spokesperson for EA told Blues News that there were no plans for a PC SKU "as of right now." Although the first installment saw a PC release with meatier graphics, it appeared on Tuesday that the sequel had no home on the PC.

VG247 reported on Wednesday that EA confirmed the PC version was actually under consideration, providing a small sliver of hope for Dead Space fans.

"Visceral Studios is dedicated to delivering an outstanding Dead Space sequel for the Xbox 360 and PS3,” the EA spokesperson said. “A PC SKU is under consideration. Nothing additional at this time."

With that said, the PC version could possibly ship sometime after the launch of the console versions. The original Dead Space title hit retail shelves on October 14, 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Microsoft Windows version wasn't available until six days later. Unfortunately, given the current status, we may not see the game on the PC until Q3 calendar 2012.

That's a guess, of course.

I agree! no one cares, given how shit the first port was... there will be no campaign for a PC version, no one with placards in the street, no boycott if EA don't bring it, nothing but pure apathy...

I wasn't very impressed with the PC version of the first game.

I don't trust EA to keep the servers up for more that 12 months.

I would never buy a console FPS until they enable the use of a mouse/keyboard combo for control - can't get the hang of PS3 (or Xbox for that matter) controllers for these type of games.

So it looks like this one definitely isn't on my buy list.

Dead Space isn't an FPS. Probably would have been better if it was imo.

Mouse/keyboard v joypad is an old argument I'm tired of hearing. Just relax and try to have fun.

I dunno why publishers seem intent to offend and alienate potentially paying customers. I didn't think Dead Space was that great, but I'd probably still buy a sequel in a Steam weekend sale. I'm sure they'd much rather I buy it full price on a console, but reality is I - and others, obviously - wont; so if they want to maximise sales, they need to cater to all markets and make it available through all distribution channels.

If they're so unjustly terrified of losing sales to piracy by releasing a PC version, just wait a few months after the console release is out and then release the improved PC version sans DRM/copy protection - which as both a pirate and legitimate customers, and someone who would rather be the later, I can say is far, far more troublesome to the paying customer than it is to a pirate.

The first one sold so little it'd hardly worth the investment to port and publish it. Perhaps as download only.
