David Cameron Joins LinkedIn and FourSquare
David Cameron is adding a LinkedIn profile and a FourSquare account to his social media portfolio. They join his already established presence across Twitter, Facebook and Flickr.
Sometimes it seems as though every corporation and person of importance is trying to harness the power of social media to further their cause, and it seems now David Cameron is adding to his own Web 2.0 own campaign. According to a recent statement, the Prime Minster has recently joined both LinkedIn and FourSquare.
For those not in the know, LinkedIn is a social network for professionals that allows people to post their resumes and potentially receive job offers from other individuals or companies. FourSquare is a location-based social tool that encourages users to 'check-in' throughout the day, sharing their location with their followers. Though most people use the tool for checking into local establishments, such as restaurants, cinemas and shopping centres, it's not unusual to see people checking in at their local park, train station, or even public loos.
According to Number 10, Prime Minister David Cameron has already checked in at BP's North Sea HQ in Aberdeen and the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The aim of checking-in is to illustrate the events the Prime Minister participates in during his day-to-day duties beyond Downing Street. Number 10's own FourSquare presence supplies information to visitors and tourists checking-in there.
As far as LinkedIn is concerned, Downing Street says that Cameron joined to stay connected with businesses that have an online presence.
"Number 10 has been in contact with a number of professionals who attended the Women on Boards reception at Downing Street last night inviting them to connect with the Prime Minister," the statement reads. "It is the intention that Downing Street will continue to connect via LinkedIn with people and businesses the PM meets regarding UK business, enterprise and manufacturing."
