The Wii Light Saber
Nintendo recently announced, to our delight, its Wii Light Saber.
The light saber isn’t much to talk about lookswise. It’s a long tube (imagine) that fits onto your wii mote. It’s got an on-off switch (we know, but for some reason they made a huge deal of that) and it slowly brightens to full power and then, when you turn it off, it dims down again. None of that harsh flick on, flick off business. We know this isn’t a big thing, but it makes it more like the real light sabers and it’s nice that they took the time to pay attention to detail. Having said that, considering how little detail there is, it’d be insulting if they didn’t pay attention to what was there.
It uses 14 LED lights for that blue glow that’s so commonly associated with the Wii and it’s accessories. One thing we will say is do not forget the three AAA batteries [because if you needed three AAA game releases Wii owners would be sorely pressed – Sarcastic Ed] it needs to work. Don’t want to p*** off any would be Jedis.
All in all we love this idea, it’s been far too long a wait for an even close to real light saber. Although, as much as we thought this would complete us, it doesn’t. I know, we were hurt and confused too!
The commondity (don’t refer to it as a toy. It’s not) retails at £14.99 or €23.49 and is available from Play.com.
This would make the perfect gift coupled with LEGO: Star Wars (because they’re both Star Wars related, in case you missed that). Also, it makes a great build-up gift if you want to buy someone Star Wars: The Force Unleashed as a present in the Spring. Don’t we just think of everything?

This article might have been usefaul about 3 weeks ago but, with the problems of sourcing things like a Wii, this close to Christmas, it's just too late!
A very informative and handy review, but I have to ask - What about the PSP? I would have found this especially useful, considering the recent (ish) release of a thinner, lighter PSP. How could such a big ommission be made!?
I agree on the Wii score, you'll be hard pressed to find one now and it's just too late for it to be really useful.

Apart form that, I guess the PSP isn't too big an omission, I haven't really heard anyting about it since the release of the slim, and nothing too much about the games either. That might just be me though.
I really want to know what my chances are of getting a DS though, it just says I can find one easier than a Wii, but there's no real indication of how hard it'd be
