Intel's 45 Nm Mobile Quad-core Processor To Arrive With A Big Premium

It should not come as a surprise that Intel will take advantage of the fact that it is the only company that is offering mobile quad-core processors at this time, but we are sure that the premium charged for these processors will not only put these systems out of reach for many consumers, it may large enough to even make deep-pocketed enthusiasts think twice.

Rumors on the Internet previously indicated that the QX9300 processor will sell for a tray-price of $1038, making it the most Intel mobile processor today. Consumers are unlikely to get their hands on such a chip for the tray price and, as it is the case with most Extreme processors, will pay a substantial premium.

The Eurocom Montebello notebook provides a first indication how big that premium will be : The company will charge $1232 extra over the base P8400 (2.26 GHz) CPU, which will be sold for a tray price of $209. The X9100 dual-processor (expected tray price : $851) is offered by Eurocom for a $959 premium. Eurocom notes that the X9100 option is expected to become available at the end of June and the QX9300 at the end of July.

A basic Montevina notebook from Eurocom will sell for about $2500. Equipped with all the bells and whistles (8 GB memory, 32 GB SSD), expect to pay at least $5500.
