Call of Duty Elite for PC Indefinitely Delayed?

An entry spotted on the official Call of Duty: Elite Twitter page has caused some concern for PC gamers, as Activision indicated that the online multiplayer service for Modern Warfare 3 may or may not actually become available for the PC after all.

"We are working towards a universal Elite experience but we cannot guarantee if or when a version will be available for the PC," the Twitter post reads.

Later Activision backtracked and updated the Elite Twitter page with another entry, stating that it misspoke in its earlier tweet. "Our goal has always been to provide a free PC offering for Elite. Stay tuned for an update as timing is still being determined."

Following in the footsteps of Battle.net and Bungie.net, Activision's Call of Duty: Elite is an online service created by Beachhead Studios for Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 that offers both free and subscription-based services. Elite provides lifetime statistics across both (and future) games, social-networking options, and for Premium subscribers, downloadable content, virtual and physical prizes, Elite TV and more.

But Activision's new Call of Duty network has suffered technical issues ever since the launch of Modern Warfare 3. According to the company, a "greater than expected demand" has impaired the service since the game hit store shelves.

"We are still working very hard to increase the number of users who can access the service simultaneously, and over the next few days, we will be working to increase the functionality of groups and clans in the Connect section," Activision said on Monday. "We've made good progress, but we realize there's still hard work to be done so that every player can access Call of Duty Elite whenever they want."
