3R System Ice Age – A Perfect Mount
The Ice Age cooler by 3R Systems is one of the rare products that left a good impression on us literally straight out of the box – that being because the box and everything in it was very tidy and the buyer can see all parts at a glance. 3R System also found an excellent solution for the installation procedure. Although the cooler comes with its own retention module for socket 775, it can be installed without having to remove the motherboard first. In our opinion, some of the other companies would do well to follow this example. Mounting the cooler itself is accomplished in a matter of seconds using a metal clip that is very easy to attach.
From a technology and design perspective, the cooler has a lot going for it, as it uses four heatpipes that are in direct contact with the CPU. So does this really result in an “Ice Age” for the CPU, as the cooler’s name would suggest? The answer is “No”, since the cooling performance is only average. At its highest fan speed, it can cool the CPU to 72.5°C, albeit very noisily. Happily, even the slower speeds provide sufficient cooling as well, allowing the users to turn the fan down a few levels.

| CPU | 100% load | idle |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature 12V | 72.5 °C | 37 °C |
| Temperature 5V | 76.5 °C | 39.5 °C |
| Noise | 45.6 dB(A) | 39.1 dB(A) |

Nice to see the Noctua's still up there!
I'm hoping they'll review the Zalman CNPS9700 and the Tuniq Tower 120 in the part three of this series.
Any chance of including the standard Intel box cooler as a baseline comparison for temperature, noise and installation?
well just look at page 2 that basicly is an Intel cooler
How can the nexus (pg 2) get a 10 for installation as it is the push pin type that accounts for significant numbers of the 'are my temps ok?' posts on the forum, this method whilst simple in principle, i.e. no backplate, no water etc. it causes many problems upon actual real world installations.
it LOOKS a lot like the Intel HSF, but is it the same? I doubt it, but does anyone know? if not, i too would like to see the intel scores.
I'm using the Titan Amanda tec cooler, never gone over 45°C would've been nice to see that up there too.
