It was only a matter of time before it happened, which is why we’re not the least bit surprised to see that the first case of harassment via Facebook has made it’s way to the courts.

Of course, we would have thought that anyone who pokes, prods or hugs people on a regular basis would have been slapped with a court case a long time ago but then again, things are a little different on Facebook.

Although this is the first time a case like this has been brought to court it’s not surprising to learn that it’s your stereotypical messy break-up type story.

Birmingham resident, Michael Hurst, has pleaded not guilty to harassing ex-girlfriend Sophie Sladden via the popular social notworking site.

Hurst is accused of contacting Ms Sladden via the webpage on January 21, according to the Birmingham Mail.

A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service told the Mail they had prosecuted harassment cases, which involved phone calls, letters and even text messages but to their knowledge, this was the first time a site like Facebook was involved.

Hurst’s case is due to continue later on this month.
