Macs Finally Get Windows 7 Support in Boot Camp

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Apple has updated Boot Camp to include support for the latest version of Windows.

Welcome to October 2009, Apple fans. Following the promise that there would be an update to add support for Windows 7 by the end of 2009, Apple has finally released an update for its Boot Camp software utility that allows Mac-users to run the newest iteration of Windows on their machines.

PC World reports that Boot Camp 3.1 now adds support for all three versions of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate) in both 32-bit and 64-bit configurations and users wishing to upgrade to Windows 7 can do so using the Boot Camp Utility for Windows 7 Upgrade.

Wow, that only took them six months...I configured GRUB to support windows 7 in 30 seconds...

:) Yeah, great isn't it. However, I'm sure someone told me that GRUB 2 wouldn't recognise Windows 7. Is this still the case? Or is it just bull?

Not sure why this has even made news. I installed Win 7 on my mac mini with OSX 10.5.4 a couple of months back, and it's run like a dream. I guess that this is just foramlising the support!

I'm still using 0.97 so I wouldn't know, but I think that is probably BS. For non-linux operating systems you can simply add them to the config file with whatever name you want and which disk and partition you wish to boot from.

Yeah, my GRUB is still the same because I keep upgrading so no problems here either. I haven't installed GRUB 2 from fresh yet (for myself) but apparently the menu.lst file no longer exists, at least not in the same format as before. I haven't looked at it myself though.

Still, I use GRUB to boot my 'Mac'. Open source is beautiful.
