BlizzCon Site Crippled With Traffic, Tickets Taken Offline

Fans trying to get their hands on tickets for Blizzard’s BlizzCon convention set to take place in California this October were all-a-flap when company announced tickets were on sale at the beginning of the week, however just because the tickets were on sale, doesn’t mean anyone was able to buy any.

The Blizzard site went down shortly after the tickets went on sale and many users who purchased tickets before the site crashed were told that their orders might not have even gone through. The Blizzard team reported (WoW forum alert) that the issue was resolved by about 10pm PDT on Monday but throughout the day the site was crippled with high volumes of traffic and purchases were slow to process. Aside from the traffic the site was taken offline twice to address an issue reported by players.

At about 9pm PDT, Blizzard announced that tickets sales for BlizzCon were being taken offline for the night and that the team would continue implementing optimizations through last night and this morning before tickets sales went back up at about 12pm.

Sales seem to be back online and available from the BlizzCon site. Now in it’s third year, BlizzCon offers fans a look at the best of Blizzard games, the chance to win different prizes and attend Q&A sessions with various different Blizzard developers. BlizzCon takes place on the October 10 and 11 in the Anaheim Convention Centre.

[Update] We tried the BlizzCon site and tickets for the event appear to be sold out. If you managed to get your hands on some, hold on tight ; we’re sure there are plenty of disappointed, desperate fans out there. Hard luck, guys.
