Blacksite: Area 51 Image Preview

Blacksite : Area 51 is a direct sequel to the original Blacksite and is under development at Midway Austin. Players take on the role of Aeran Pierce, a member of a team sent into Area 51 to mop up what amounts to an alien invasion.

Interestingly enough, the game opens with the protagonist in Iraq, with Iraqi rebels the enemies for the first portion of the game. Of course, Pierce and his team are soon shipped back to the Nevada desert where they’re forced to fight alien intruders.

Don’t take this as wrote, but it does seem as though this juxtaposition is a perfect reason for some alien to wander out as part of the closing cut-scene and say, “We’re not so different, you and I...” whenupon the gaming public will suddenly regret all those killings...

Of course, we won’t know definitively until Blacksite : Area 51 is released. It’s currently scheduled a little vaguely at Q3 2007. We’ve been assured there’ll be another demo closer to release.
