Brits Choose BlackBerry Touch Over iPhone 5
There’s always quite a bit of hype in the weeks and months leading up to a new iPhone launch. However, it seems Britons are shunning Apple’s latest, as-yet-unannounced creation for another unannounced, unreleased smartphone: the BlackBerry Touch.
When you hear BlackBerry Touch, don’t jump to conclusions and think we’re referring to the already released BlackBerry Storm (and Storm 2). No, no, the BlackBerry Touch (also known as Monaco or Monza) has yet to be announced by RIM. Still, like the iPhone 5, that doesn’t mean there hasn't been a lot of talk about the Touch. Unlike the iPhone 5, there has also been a ton of pictures and leaks regarding the upcoming BlackBerry, and it seems as though it's coming out on top when compared to the iPhone 5. At least, it is as far as UK customers are concerned.
Goodmobilephones surveyed nearly 1000 people and asked them which they want more, the iPhone 5 or the BlackBerry Touch. Of the respondants, 38 percent already owned an iPhone and 32 percent were BlackBerry users. When asked, 53 per cent said that they'd rather have the Blackberry Touch, while 42 percent said they’d like the iPhone 5. A small number (5 percent) said they’d rather have neither. According to Shiny Shiny, reasons for shunning the iPhone 5 including the BlackBerry being more reliable and having easier-to-use email functions.
While we’ve yet to receive any official information (or even any official-sounding leaks) regarding the specs of the iPhone 5, Boy Genius Report outed the supposed specs of the BlackBerry Torch late last week. Rumored to have a 1.2GHz CPU, the Touch runs BlackBerry OS 6.1, boasts a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera and NFC support.
Expect more information on both these devices in the coming months. RIM is expected to detail the BB Touch at BlackBerry World in May, while Apple usually talks about its upcoming iPhone at WWDC at the begining of June.
