What's Inside a BlackBerry PlayBook?

So you’ve got your new PlayBook home, but you can’t ignore that uncontrollable urge to see what’s behind that ominous black exterior. Well, lucky for you, iFixit has given the device the teardown treatment.

First and foremost, the device is apparently easier to open than its number one competitor, the iPad. Unfortunately, the composition of parts means replacing the battery requires the user to first remove the motherboard. Removing it is easy enough, just some standard Philips #00 screws, but it’s still a little disappointing that RIM decided to house the the guts of the PlayBook in the display assembly, and not the rear case like most other tablets.

Other highlights of the teardown include a magnetic dock connector, a 20 watt-hour battery, a 3-megapixel front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of shooting 1080p video, 16GB of Samsung NAND flash, a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 1GHz dual-core processor, and 1GB DRAM.
