BlackBerry Bold 9900 Gets Official UK Release Date

BlackBerry fans that have been hanging on every rumor regarding Research In Motion's upcoming touchscreen Bold can finally breathe a sigh a of relief --the handset's UK launch has been confirmed, with the important date set for August 18.

Announced earlier this year, the Bold 9900 (also known as the Bold Touch) was originally scheduled for September availability. However, last month, word got out that we might see this 'Berry a whole month early. Sure enough, TechRadar reports that Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy will both be stocking the device from August 18 onwards. Those willing to sign a £31-per-month contract will get the phone for free, while off-contract pricing has not yet been detailed. O2, 3UK and Vodafone have all confirmed plans to carry the phone, with 3 setting its own release of September 3.

The Bold 9900 is RIM’s thinnest phone yet. It boasts a high resolution, 2.8-inch capacitive touch screen; a 1.2GHz Snapdragon CPU; 768MB of RAM; up to 32GB of storage via MicroSD (8GB as standard); a 5-megapixel camera with flash and HD video capture; microUSB; NFC; Bluetooth; 802.11a/b/g/n; and compass, accelerometer and proximity sensors. It also offers the physical keyboard avid BlackBerry users are so attached to.
