Hints and Tips with BitComet

Ad

We didn’t specifically discuss BitComet above because it’s greatest assets are its customisability and the lack of difficulty accessing its settings for new users. Instead we’ve included some details on how to use that customisability. We’ll walk through some of the ways to quickly download a maximum of files with high security with this BitComet. You can download BitComet here.

Here are a couple of useful hints for new users:

− Configure BitComet well: Go to “Options/ Preferences” and in the general settings leave both upload and download speed limits set to “No limit” (you can choose to limit the upload speed but it will also slow down your download speed). In order to avoid saturating your bandwidth, limit the number of simultaneous downloads to only three or four.

− Managing the calendar: In the “Options/ Scheduler” menu, you can determine the download speed at which you want BitComet to operate at each hour of each day of the week (e.g. high speed, slow speed, cut off). This should only be of concern to people whose PC is permanently connected to the internet and download a large volume of data.

- Giving files priority: While downloads are in progress, you can adjust the priority according of files being downloaded. Click on the “files” icon (between “Trackers” and “Clients”), then right-click on the file of your choice and modify it’s priority to “highest”.

− Erasing the torrent: Once the download is completed, you can remove the torrent from your drive. This is considered bad etiquette; it’s best to seed the torrent for a while yourself to make some contribution. When you do want to delete the torrent, you must select the downloaded file in BitComet, to stop the sharing by clicking on the “Stop” icon and to select “Delete”/”Delete this torrent” by right-clicking on it. It can feel quite selfish in the way that you will no longer be sharing the file with others but at least this way you will free up your bandwidth!
