Take Two is delaying BioShock 2 to fiscal 2010.

Various sources are reporting that Take Two Interactive has delayed the release date for BioShock 2, pushing the game's eventual release back from Q4 2009 to sometime in "fiscal 2010." The company cites a need to provide additional time for the title although no specific reasons were offered. The new date means that fans won't see more BioShock until next year, sometime after March. Depressing as the news may sound, Take-Two's chairman Strauss Zelnick said that the decision was right for the product.

"The decision to shift a release date is never an easy one, especially with a product as highly anticipated as BioShock2," said Take-Two CEO Ben Feder. "We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve."

In BioShock2, players take on the role of Big Daddy, the prototype for the Daddies seen in the original game. Slated for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows, the game uses a modified version of Epic's Unreal Engine 2.5. Although in development by 2K Marin, Digital Extremes is handling the development of the multiplayer aspect, whereas Arkane Studios is lending a hand on the overall design, animation, and art.
