Microsoft Employees Tweet Bing 2.0 Excitement
Bing 2.0 could hit the web as early as next week, according to tweets from Microsoft employees.
ZDNet reports that Microsoft employees currently in Seattle for the company's annual meeting are all tweeting about Bing 2.0, which is coming 'this month.' One staffer in attendance even went as far as to say we'll see the next version of Bing next week.
“BING 2.0 terrific !! watch out guys ! bing + silverlight in maps = amazing !! goodbye google” read one tweet.
Another employee tweeted Microsoft's plans to add new features to maps: “Bing 2.0, out this month, has some exciting new features. Imagine seeing maps plus pics from the neighborhood of a restaurant to try. “
Despite its oh so lame jingle and the fact that Microsoft insists on calling it a "decision making engine," a lot of people actually quite like Bing. While there's not a whole lot to go on aside from a ballpark for the launch, those of you who've made the change from Google to Bing can look forward to Silverlight in maps as well among other things.

i use it sometimes, the pictures search is alot better than googles, and the standard search is pretty similar..the maps and shopping need alot of work though, so the upgrades to maps sounds interesting.
The design is cool, definite possibility to take over from google for me
I dunno. Microsoft are always full of great promises but the reality is that the technology only ever seems to work in the USA. Even Google's attention to the UK (in StreetView, for example) is pathetic compared to USA coverage.
I agree that the maps are quite poor right now and hopefully these improvements will make them as good or better than Google Maps.
Even though Google is still king I'm hoping that Bing vastly improves because competition will be good for all of us. Windows hadn't had competition and we saw how bad it got and now that there is a lot of talk about fringe OSs like Linux and Mac we can see how much Windows is improving.

Yeah, I'm from UK too, they never notice UK. Everything including Hardware and software is much more expensive in UK than USA. There's example: Core i5 costs £150 and AMD Phenom costs even less, £100.
The only way to answer this is with a:
"Ummm .... what's Bing? The sound those old telephones make when you restore the handset after finishing a call. 'old telephone' suits M$ pretty well."
I think M$ has failed to realize that 'search' was the last century and 'maps' was a decade ago. A time-machine is what M$ needs to bring it to the present. Good luck Bing 2.0 - you would definitely need it.
