Best Buy UK Stores to Close January 15

by - source: Pocket-Lint

Best Buy's UK stores will ring in the new year before shutting up shop for good.

Electronics giant Best Buy only arrived in the United Kingdom 18 months ago but Carphone Warehouse earlier this month announced that it was planning to shut all of the stores that have popped up around the UK in the last year and a half. Today we learn that this closure will happen on January 15 of next year.

When Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy teamed up to form the joint venture that was Best Buy Europe, the original plan was to have 200 shops across Europe by 2013, however, that is no longer on the cards. In fact, just 11 had been opened by June of this year, at which point the roll-out was officially halted. In early November, Carphone confirmed plans to close down all Best Buy UK stores. Today, Pocket-Lint reports that while the stores will remain open throughout the Christmas season, they will be closed less than a month later.

Best Buy UK today published an open letter to customers, vendors and suppliers detailing its plans for closure:

" [...] based upon the outcome of our employee consultation, we intend to cease retail trading at our Best Buy UK branded stores & website by the 15th January 2012," writes Steve Jensen, Managing Director of Best Buy UK. "We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you," he continued. "We are still committed to making sure your needs are well served up until our closing and beyond. Our on-going services are described in the "Customer Notice" and in our stores."
