Plenty of Tablets At Best Buy This Holiday Season
If you've been waiting for an iPad contender before jumping on the tablet bandwagon, you'll be pleased to know that you could be the proud owner of a brand new slate before the year is out.
Forbes reports that this holiday season at Best Buy is going to be all about tablets. Though the electronics giant doesn't have any more specific details about what kind of tablets it'll be offering as the year wears on, Shawn Score, president of Best Buy's wireless retail unit, says we can expect more tablets as the holidays draw closer.
"Going into the holidays, we will make tablets a focus," Score told Forbes. "Like e-readers over the last couple years, we think customers will think of Best Buy for tablets and expect us to have the right ones."
We've seen very little in the way of tablets since Apple announced the iPad at the beginning of this year. Though CES and Computex were awash with manufacturers promising tablets in Q3, Q4 and Q1 of 2011, none have declared a concrete release date. The closest we've come was HP's Slate PC running Windows 7, which was shown off at CES, before the iPad was even announced. Despite beating Apple to the punch with an announcement, the company couldn't tell us when to expect the device. In fact, HP released very little information about the Slate, and as the months passed, people got more and more restless. For a while it looked as though we'd see a June launch, but at the end of April, word got out that HP had canned the device and we stopped waiting for a date. HP most recently claimed that Windows and WebOS tablets would arrive at the beginning of next year.
