BPI Telecom Goes Up the Hill with Jack and Jill
BPI Telecom, an Irish communications company, handed over a cheque for €200,000 to the Jack and Jill foundation today.
The Jack and Jill Foundation is a registered charity that was set up to help the babies and their families who are affected by irreparable brain damage (referred to as SDD). The charity helps children who are Severely Developmentally Delayed from 0-4 years.
The company raised the money by launching ad campaigns encouraging people to recycle their unused mobile phones. There is an estimated 15 million out of use mobile phones in Irish homes. BPI collect the phones from collection bins around the 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland. Participating stores include, any Meteor branch, some branches of Shell garages, schools, Dunnes Stores and participating chemists and pubs around the country
BPI Telecom recycle the phones by repairing them after which they can be used in emerging mobile markets. For every 20,000 phones BPI receive the Jack and Jill Foundation receive enough to support one extra nurse to help the families affected by SDD.
