BBFC Rejcts Modified Manhunt 2

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

The British Board of Film Classification has rejected the Rockstar’s attempts to tone down Manhunt 2’s violence, making the horror title the first game in ten years to be denied classification by the board... And twice, to boot.

The console version of the game received an Adults Only rating with the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) in the States.

The BBFC first issued a ban on the game at the beginning of June saying that it was "casually sadistic" and "constantly encouraged visceral killing."

While the board recognizes the changes that were made to the game, the BBFC feels Take-Two Interactive, owners of Rockstar, didn’t make adequate changes to the game’s gore. The board says they suggested changes to the developer, which the developer chose not to make to the game, and thus had no choice but to reject the game on both platforms.

Although the BBFC did say it was up to the developers to make a further appeal it’s doubtful Rockstar Games would be willing to alter the game a second time just for the benefit of the board. So it looks like it might be a while before the UK gets its hands on Manhunt 2.

The original Manhunt (2003) was allegedly linked to the murder of a 14 year old boy in Leicester, although it was never presented as evidence in trial.
