Avermedia Shows Off GPS On A TV Tuner Stick

Avermedia a company, which is known for its television and multimedia products, has showcased an interesting device at Computex this year ; GPS on a TV Tuner stick

This week at Computex, Avermedia showed off the A805 - AverTV Volar GPS 805. It looks a lot like a standard DVB-T TV tuner stick but it also integrates a low consumption GPS chip (0.23 A), meaning you can watch TV or navigate while connected to a notebook. You can also use GPS and watch digital TV simultaneously in Picture-In-Picture mode or manage functions of GPS voice indication and DVB-T audio individually or simultaneously.

Avermedia claimed that the GPS chip only adds on a few extra bucks to the price, so it can be an added value at the same price of standard TV tuner sticks. There is also a MMCX connection for an external GPS antenna and it includes a small TV antenna. It also comes with the AverTV 6 software and the GPS application PaPaGo !, which according to the Avermedia website, has maps for France, Germany, Czech, UK, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Unfortuantely there’s no mention of anything regarding the US and it is only a 3 month trial licence.

The price is still to be announced but should be around be around $90 although seeing as how it looks like there are no maps available for the US yet, we should probably go with €58 or £46.
