UK Atrix Users Get Gingerbread in Time for Christmas
The season for Froyo has officially passed.
Though many Android users seem to have given up their affinity for Gingerbread and taken up a love affair with a certain Ice Cream Sandwich, there are plenty of Froyo fans out there still eying up their friends' Gingerbread devices. Today, UK Motorola Atrix users were given the good news that they are no longer a part of that group.
Softpedia reports that the Gingerbread update is now available OTA for users with unlocked handsets. If you're rocking an Orange or T-Mobile Atrix you'll have to wait another while for the update to make it to your handset. Not too long, though, as Motorola says it shouldn't be more than a week before it does.
First shown off at CES in January, the Atrix packs Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor and is unique in that it offers an optional laptop docking station that transforms the phone into a notebook. The phone itself sports a 4-inch display (540x960), the 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 CPU, and 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 48GB via microSD). The docking station adds two USB sports, a full size keyboard and an 11.5-inch display (1366x768). There’s also an option for a multimedia dock that provides 3xUSB 2.0 and HDMI support.
The smartphone first launched in the U.S. on February 22 and Canada followed shortly after with a March 17 launch. Korea's April 3 launch was just a couple of weeks after Canada, and the UK launch was on May 4. The Atrix 2, an updated version of the phone, launched earlier this month and packs the same Tegra 2 processor, a 4.3-inch display, an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p recording, and the same Webtop docking station. The Atrix 2 hit shelves with Gingerbread pre-installed.

only been waiting since july when they said we would get a simultaneous us/uk release but hey 4 months and a load of excuses later and we have it BUT very poor motorola and orange customer service has made me and many others going by some forums rethink who our brand and operator of choice will be because it certainly wont be these two
It's been a long time coming... Too long. With a rocky start to get the phone from tmobile and taking this long to get the update I can't say I'm happy or that I'll be starting with either for long
