Asus EeePad Transformer Priced, Coming April 6
If last week's Asus EeePad Transformer announcement had you drooling, then you'll probably be interested in hearing how much the tablet-with-keyboard-attachment affair is going to retail for here in the UK.
Sadly, though Asus was more than happy to release fancy press shots, specs and a ball-park release date for the device last week, the company did not reveal pricing for the Transformer, nor did they specify a UK release date. A little less sad: the company yesterday came clean and dished on the official UK pricing and release for the EeePad Transformer. Yay!
Despite rumours that said we'd see the Transformer hit UK stores on March 30 proving to be false, March 30 did bring some rather nice EeePad Transformer news: Asus yesterday revealed that the device would hit on April 6 with a range of prices and opened up pre-orders for the Transformer.
Available in 16GB and 32GB flavours, those looking for the top-end WiFi model will be forking over £429, while the 16GB WiFi model will cost £379. Throw in the optional keyboard dock and you're looking at £429 for the 16GB. Pricing for the upcoming 3G model was not revealed, nor did Asus spill on how much it would cost customers to purchase the 32GB WiFi model and keyboard dock together. Let's hope there’s nothing fishy going on there...
In case you’re just joining the EeePad Transformer party, specswise you’re looking at a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera, a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera, a 10.1-inch Gorilla glass multitouch screen (1280x800), a combined battery life of 16 hours (9.5 hours without the dock), built-in SRS Sound technology for dynamic 3D stereo audio, and a mini HDMI output port. Additional features include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a G-sensor, light sensor, gyroscope, e-compass and GPS. The docking station provides a full QWERTY keyboard, unique Android Function keys, an SD card reader, two USB ports and the additional battery.

I'm excited about this one. Most promising Android tablet so far!
+1
And the pricing is actually more reasonable than I was expecting. This is the closest I've come to wanting a tablet!
slightly overpriced... It is an Acer at the end of a day...

While I do agree that it is still overprices. Compared to the rest it is a bargain. I hope Asus can pull it with quality, availability and that they drop the price even more. It should cost most $399 with the keyboard. And let's say a few months later the 32gb model should cost no more than $400 with a keyboard.
A little bit more price dropping and I might buy one.
I expect good tablets to const no more that $200 in the near future. If they cost more than tablets would not make sense at all.
These are disposable devices. I should be able to buy another one in case I break it without getting bankrupt.
There is nothing special and magical about them so I don't see any reason why should they cost so much.
Ebooks are also overprices! $400 for a 9.7" ebook - LOL!
