Asus Eee Keyboard Shipping at End of April

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

It's been a long road but it looks like we may soon see Asus' EeePC keyboard.

Word on the street is that Asus' Eee Keyboard could start shipping at the end of this month. The price is projected to be somewhere between $400 and $600.

We saw this nifty little nettop at CES 2009. Originally scheduled for a June '09 launch, there's been so many delays since then that we've lost track of the device numerous times. Despite all that, we're still excited about seeing this device hit shelves. Packing an entire computer into just a keyboard, the device has been hailed as a great solution for those looking for a compact and discrete HTPC.

The Eee Keyboard will come in two flavors, one with wireless HDMI and one with wired HDMI.  It runs on Intel's Atom processor (1.6GHz), packs 1GB of RAM, the option for either a 16GB or 31GB SSD and replaces the numeric pad that usually lies to the right with a 5-inch touchscreen.

And now that it's finally here I still find myself asking "and the point is?"

Although wireless HDMI is kinda cool.

Imagine the neckache that you get from craning your neck to the right all the time to view this.

Would it be totally going against the grain to split the keys right through the middle and put the screen there?

No, but that ain't natural (conventional keyboard usage wise)... the whole point of this is to give a desktop-like experience but with portability.

Bending your neck to the right to look at a screen isn't very natural either. :)

I knew you'd say that, which is why I mentioned, "conventional keyboard usage wise".. natural :) , which holds more priority over the location of the side screen, which albeit isn't too bad since you'r not totally turning ur neck at like a 90deg angle or something, but just a minor rotation. Imagine the screen inplace of the numpad keys.

Didn't mean to be pedantic. :)

Would be nice if you could detach the screen and clip it onto the top.

Yea... that ain't gonna happen...well not for atleast 5-10 years... until portable self-powered screens develop.

Nah, having a port on the top as well as the right of the keyboard that the screen just connects to.

You have HDMI :)

besides adding a monitor negates the pt of this... it's supposed to be portable... but yea i suppose you cud use it as a mini-pc.. however, it's much less featured and capable than a cheap pc and/or netbook..
