Asus Teases Uber Skinny Eee PC and Tablet Phone
Asus is planning a big week for Computex 2011.
It’s been a long time since we saw the first Eee PC, and to say the brand has changed a lot would be an understatement. Between all the Eee Slates and Eee Pad Transformers, you'd be forgiven for forgetting about the original Eee PC netbook. However, Asus hasn’t forgotten about the very first Eee PC. In fact, the company is planning a new Eee PC, among other things, and it’ll unveil it next month.
With Computex Taipei nearly upon us (don't forget, our coverage starts next week), Asus has set about whipping fans into a frenzy about what it plans to announce at the tradeshow. Using its Facebook page as a platform for teasing, the company has been posting images all week and dropping hints about what it will have on hand in Taiwan.
First up is what looks like a tablet with the tagline, “Break the Rules: Pad or Phone?” It definitely looks like a tablet, but another posting points towards three additional photos of the device (on Techinstyle) and asks," “Hmmm tablets with bumps... is it pregnant??" Could we be looking at a phone with a larger, tablet dock? We could see this working if the phone clipped in to the back of the tablet...
Next is a teaser for a the new Eee PC, which looks to be slimmer than ever. However, Asus is promising another twist with this device and in posting the picture, the company also asked users how the felt about Linux on the Eee PC:
“What do you prefer to use:, pad, notebook or netbook? Also, given that we were first to try Linux with the Eee PC 701 back in 2007 - we'd like to know again: is Windows still a firm requirement for your everyday needs?”
Last but not least is a product described as “a tablet that jumps out at you.” This definitely looks like a phone, so we’re inclined to think this image could be tied to the ‘pad or phone’ teaser from earlier this week. ‘Jumps out’ could refer to the fact that you can pop the phone in and out of the tablet dock, right?
Whatever these devices are, we don’t have long to wait before we find out.

If a company in this present age could create a really sexy product that could really offer an alternative to Apple's inferior hardware ( excluding retina display), Apple at the moment seems to have a monopoly over design aesthetics. The average consumer cares not for hardware, or even functionality they want something that creates a 'wow' factor. If Asus can deliver a product that looks amazing, which also has great hardware I think they can fulfill a niche that is begging to be exploited ie the only other company that offers great looking products has decided to cripple their functionality so they can slowly drip their new products in. Thunderbolt, come on, I know Apple customers are dumb but a proprietary connection, what about display port or usb. HTC FTW.
