Nick Haley breaches copyright, Apple showers him with gifts
Earlier this month Apple recruited an 18-year old student from Warwick to produce an advert for the new iPod touch after being impressed with his amateur video efforts on YouTube.
Nick Haley, who is currently studying at a University in Leeds, made a 30 second video clip which gave the viewers a virtual tour of the iPod Touch and posted it on YouTube for his friends to watch.
The advert was inspired by the song Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex, by Brazilian band CSS. Haley was listening to the track when he realised that, given the lyrics of the song ("my music is where I’d like you to touch"), it would be a perfect soundtrack to an advertisement for the newest Apple device.
An Apple employee spotted the clip on the site and reported it to the company’s advertising agency. The agency contacted Haley and asked him if he would be interested in working with them on producing a more professional version.
The original is still up on YouTube along with the Apple remake which was first shown during the World Series in the US, last weekend. The advert is due for a European release in the coming weeks.
Apple refused to say how much they paid Nick for his ideas but did say that the company would be making a significant contribution to his education in the UK. Nick also received several Apple products including a MacBook Pro.
