Apple Updates MobileMe Status Message With "Important" Info for Users
It’s been exactly a week since MobileMe users started reporting problems with sending mail from their accounts. Users began complaining last Thursday afternoon and with no fixes coming over the weekend, there was still no word from Apple come Tuesday about what the problem might be.
Apple wasn’t all that helpful with regards to what was actually wrong. A status message went up on the MobileMe support website saying the problem was affecting 1% of users and would be fixed ASAP.
Since then a link specifically for MobileMe users has been added to the status message. We figured you’d need your account details for whatever lay behind the “Important : if you are affected by this email outage please click here for more information” link.
Turns out not so much. Important information for MobileMe users is as follows :
“On Friday, July 18, 2008 (2008-07-18) we experienced a serious issue with one of our MobileMe mail servers. This issue is currently affecting approximately 1% of MobileMe members. Affected members are unable to send or receive email at www.me.com or access email using any email client software such as Mail on a Mac or Microsoft Outlook on a PC.
We understand this is a serious issue and apologize for this service interruption. We are working hard to restore your service.”
Several customers claim to have phoned Apple and been told by customer support that there’s nothing to do but wait it out. We’ve contacted Apple for comment and will update when we know more about this.
UPDATE : Apple’s PR for .mac (they don’t appear to have someone handling MobileMe so we figure this is the closest we’ll get) is out of the office until Monday. The autoreply we received gave us the contact details for another spokesperson that, the Apple press page tells us, usually deals with issues relating to Pro Apps, Mac Pro & Displays. We’ll let you know if we have any joy.
