Symbian expresses doubts about Android
Google recently announced its Android software for mobile phones, which the company hope to have on handsets by as early as 2008.
Several handset manufacturers have expressed interest in the software with Google currently working with several major companies to release handsets that are powered by Google.
With everybody singing the praises of Android, it was only a matter of time before the nay-sayers put in their tuppence worth and the first to express doubt is mobile OS rival, Symbian.
Vice President of Symbian, John Forsyth, says that Google’s knowledge of the internet will not translate to mobile phones.
Symbian client, Nokia, said that while they are very happy with their partnership with Symbian, they are in talks with Google with regard to using the companies software.
Forsyth said that search engines are an exact science but a mobile phone OS is something completely different and he’s not sure whether Google will be able to pull it off.
The bigwig also claims that Google’s alliance with 33 other firms to develop the open platform is just another attempt to launch a linux based OS for phones.
According to Michael Gartenberg , an analyst from Jupitor Research, Android is a shot that is going to be heard around the world. . .Except in Symbian it seems.
