Amazon UK: Kindle Was Best Selling Cyber Monday Product
The Kindle is on fire this year.
Amazon UK has announced that it sold three million products on Cyber Monday, the first Monday in December, with the £89 Kindle topping the bill as the most popular item and amassing its highest ever one-day sales. This is compared to last year's busiest day, which shifted 2.3 million items.
"History tells us that the busiest online shopping day is the first Monday in December and this year has followed that trend," said Christopher North, Managing Director of Amazon UK. "This year, Cyber Monday saw the most items ever ordered in a single day with Kindle being the standout product that looks set to appear under the most Christmas trees this festive season."
North stopped short of detailing how many Kindles were actually sold on the day, so it's impossible to know how the device is doing in terms of unit sales, however, snagging the number one spot on Cyber Monday is an achievement in itself. Amazon also said that while Monday remains the busiest day of the week, wide adoption of home broadband and internet-connected mobile devices means that other days are quickly catching up.
Amazon's Kindle Fire is expected in January, though the retailer has not confirmed a release date for the tablet. The Fire enjoyed sensational pre-order and launch sales in the United States but users have since complained about performance issues, as well as the lack of parental controls, slow browsing and other glitches. Amazon has promised an update for the device, which, with any luck, will arrive before the device launches in the United Kingdom.
