Alienware announced earlier this week that it now offers the Intel QX9770 Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core processor with the Area-51 desktop PC.

Alienware is already well known for being one of the top manufacturers of high performance notebooks and professional systems; the fact that it now boasts four cores giving it clock speeds of 3.2Ghz means that aside from bringing some kickass multitasking capabilities to Alienware desktops, the QX9770 is only going to reinforce Alienware’s reputation for pushing the limit when it comes to performance.

“Alienware is about empowering our customers by providing the highest performing, most versatile computers possible,” said Brian Joyce, Senior Vice President at Alienware.

“Incorporating the Intel QX9770 processor into our award-winning Area-51 desktop is just one more example of how Alienware is at the forefront of cutting-edge PC technology.”

All this hype about the Area-51 and it’s fancy pants processor is all well and good but we can’t sell it to you if you don’t know how much it costs. Surprisingly, the hit your wallet is going to take isn’t all that hard. Ok, so it’s going to set you back just under 2.5k but while that might seem like a lot, that £2,300 includes VAT and delivery so it could be worse.

If only they weren't so damned expensive (compared to building it yourself)... and after being bought out by Dell a couple years back I'm not sure I'd make that big an investment, I've had many problems in the past with Dell's power supplies, hard drives, and dvd drives (well not me personally as I've never owned a Dell other than my 1997 Inspiron 7000 laptop, but relatives and friends)

Why does Intel keep teasing us with the QX9770 in high end boutique PC machines - let the public have it already!!
